Air Conditioner Packaged System FAQs
A packaged HVAC system is a heating and cooling system that fits all necessary equipment into one cabinet. While split system air conditioners will have one indoor unit and one outdoor unit, packaged system air conditioners fit everything needed to cool your home in just one outdoor unit. This allows homeowners to save space inside, plus makes for easy installation and maintenance.
SEER2, or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, measures the efficiency of your air conditioner packaged system. SEER2 ratings are regulated by the federal government and have recently been updated to more accurately reflect real-world testing conditions. Good SEER2 ratings vary depending on region and system, so be sure to talk to your local Trane dealer to determine the best one for you.
Size matters. Work with a Trane HVAC professional to determine the correct sizing for your packaged AC unit. This unit is available as a 5-ton AC packaged unit, 4-ton AC packaged unit, 3-ton AC packaged unit, and 2-ton AC packaged unit, as well as 2.5 and 3.5-ton units.
Your AC packaged unit replacement cost (or new installation cost) will vary widely depending on the cooling capacity (in tons), and other factors. Contact your local Trane dealer for specific pricing.
If you currently have a problem with your packaged air unit, our Repair or Replace tool can help you determine the next step. Numerous factors go into the decision between HVAC repair and HVAC replacement, including system age, home size, cost, and more.
