MyChart: Immediate Release - MyChart - Patients & Families (2024)

URMC / / MyChart / MyChart: Immediate Release

MyChart: Immediate Release is a new initiative that makes all your medical notes and most testing results available via the UR Medicine MyChart application as soon as they are finalized.

Earlier this year, the 21st Century Cures Act expanded the rights of patients to electronically access their medical history and treatment information. This prohibits the practice of restricting your access to your electronic medical information.

Because testing results will be released to you immediately, you may receive notification of your results before a provider has had a chance to see them and contact you.

You can sign up at your doctor’s office or visit mychart.urmedicine.org.

Having greater access to your own information can help you make more informed decisions about your health. It can also create greater transparency and partnership between you and your care team, because everyone is receiving the same information at the same time.

Because this is new way of sharing information, you may see test results before your health care team has had the chance to review the result and contact you. Additionally, you’re going to be getting these results as soon as they are final when your care team may not be immediately available for questions.

Some test results may be hard to understand or sound more alarming than they really are; other results may show a serious disease like cancer. Some patients may prefer to delay these results in order to hear the result from their provider who can help interpret the test for you.

We understand that you may want to get certain results directly from your doctor. To avoid any misunderstanding or unnecessary alarm based on what you see, you can tell your provider that you would prefer delaying or preventing certain results from going to MyChart before they place the order. How to do this:

    • Tell your provider that you would prefer delaying or not sharing certain results or notes in MyChart.
    • Adjust your MyChart notification preferences to turn off text or push notifications on your phone or device. To do this, follow these steps:
      • Step 1: Log in to MyChart.
      • Step 2: Go to "Profile" and click "Communications".
      • Step 3: Under "Health" deselect emails and/or text messages for test results.
    • If you have the MyURMedicine or MyChart smartphone app, you will have to turn off your phone’s push notifications for MyChart. If you have any questions, please call the MyChart Help Desk at (585) 275-8762 (option 1).

Yes. Only you (and any family or friends who have your permission to view your MyChart) will be able to see your results.

Yes if you have granted them full proxy access. Their view of MyChart is the same as yours. This means they can see all of your information, including (but not limited to) test results, provider notes, past medical history, and messages between you and your provider.

This may be a good time to review who has proxy access to your MyChart account. While there are many benefits to giving proxy access to MyChart, there are certain situations you may wish to keep private. Please consider these factors when you decide who you give proxy access.

If you would like to change these proxy settings, follow these steps:

    1. Click the Your Menu button in the upper left.
    2. Click Share My Record (or type in a keyword like "proxy" or "share" and the system will find the correct option).
    3. Click Friends and family access.
    4. Click Revoke to remove individuals from accessing your MyChart account.

You can send a message to your doctor in MyChart or contact your doctor’s office. We appreciate your patience with our care teams who are also adjusting to this new process.

For a variety of reasons, certain test results or notes may be prevented from release or be delayed.

How do I get a biopsy report? ›

The pathologist or trained lab assistant reviews the specimen by the naked eye. This means without using a microscope.
