So I don't have a scanner. I'm required to scan some documents for a new job I have, and the information in these documents contain highly sensitive personal information. I wanted to go to UPS or FedEx to scan and print these documents. Anyone know if this a royally stupid idea? I can't really think of any alternative lol.

Maybe a good document scanner app for your phone will suffice if you have the option to send the documents digitally?

If you have an iPhone, you can scan documents in the Notes app. I assume something like this is also available on Android.

With that said, I mean, don't leave your sh*t there obviously, but I think it should be fine?

Can you not just submit a photograph or use a scanning app? Are you submitting the documents electronically?

Hey I had to do the same, had to print and email final divorce documents. If they're on their system, so be it.

You might be able to find a cheap scanner or printer/scanner combo locally on FB marketplace or something for dirt cheap.

I wouldn't worry about it. I do all my printing and scanning of documents of various levels of personal sensitivity at FedEx or UPS and have never had any issues.

Some printer/scanners DO remember everything that was entered into them, but getting a reprint of that is probably an admin function. You can ask when you go in, but the line employees are likely to not even understand the question.

Looks like it has to be a true photocopy and not a photograph.

I know the scanner built into the notes app on iOS turns it into a pdf. I've used that before for legal documents.

Ohhh wait, I'm an idiot. Turns out I had an old printer/scanner lying around from my old house lol. So at the very least, I can scan here and print there. Makes me feel a little bit better.

I'm not sure that last sentence is true and it's probably what I'd do, actually. Some of these types of stores have a policy to wipe the hard drives after a certain period of time, or to remove them before they sell and replace the machine.

OP I would ask if the store has such a policy in place. If they say no - or they don't understand the question - then depending on the type and sensitivity of the information, I might try to find another option.

Modern phones / apps don't do straight photos of the document, they scan them the same way a scanner do.

Even though you found a solution, for anyone looking for an app, I use Scanner Pro. It's pretty good. If you use Dropbox, it connects right to that. Only problem I ever encountered is you have to be on WiFi for your scans to upload.

Wait why is that a feature

So your corporate overlords know if you copy your resume at work.

I'm sure they sell it differently as a convenience tho.
