Register your Green Dot card online. The easiest way to check your balance is to text Green Dot, however, the card needs to be registered. Go to Green Dot's activation page and enter your name, address, date of birth, social security number, 16-digit card number, expiration date, 3 digit security code, and mobile phone number.[1]
- You can also register through the Green Dot app by logging in and pressing Register / Activate Now.

Text Green Dot at 42586. Text Green Dot (42586) the letters BAL followed by the last four digits of your card. Your text should look like “BAL 0000.” Green Dot will respond with your current balance.[2]
- If you’re having trouble, log into the Green Dot website, click on the link for “Mobile,” and manually register your cell phone number.
- To get transaction history, type the letters HIST followed by a space and the last 4 digits of your Green Dot Card number.
- Green Dot doesn’t charge for balance inquiries, but standard text messaging rates still apply.

Log into Green Dot's website to access your account. Click the “Log In” button on the right of Green Dot’s homepage. Enter your User ID and password, then click “Log In.”
- If you bought your Green Dot money card through a major retailer, you can also go to the retailer's website located on the card to check your balance.
- If you don't already have a User ID, click on the link labeled "Create One Now.” Enter your card information and personal details to create your account and view your balance.

Check the balance which is visible on your account page. Once you log in, you will be automatically directed to a page displaying your Green Dot balance. You can also reload money onto your card from this website if your balance is low.[3]
- Be sure to look at all transactions, including pending purchases. Some purchases may not post to your card for a few days due to the way vendors process transactions.[4]
- If you set up direct deposit or have your government benefits go directly to your Green Dot card, there is no charge to reload.

Call Green Dot customer support at 1-866-795-7597. Green Dot customer support can be reached 7 days a week between 5 am and 9 pm PST.[5] The busiest time to call Green Dot is Friday, and the least busy is Sunday.
- You can get fast access to Green Dot Customer Care specialists by becoming a Green Dot VIP, which costs an additional $4.95 a month. VIPs don’t have to pay the $2.50 ATM fee, plus if you lose your card, you can get a replacement via Federal Express.[6]

Choose the keypad option for balance inquiry. Enter your 16-digit card number and listen to the menu options. Press the number for balance inquiry.

Enter your account and personal information when prompted. An automated voice will lead you through a series of steps, starting with entering the last four digits of your card. Continue following the prompts until given the option to check your balance.

Use your card at a MoneyPass Network ATM. Insert your card into an ATM, enter your PIN, and press "Balance Inquiry." Use a MoneyPass Network ATM to check your balance for free.[8]
- If you didn’t set up a PIN when you received the card, call customer support at 1-866-795-7597.
- You can check your balance from a non-MoneyPass Network ATM for 50¢.[9]
- You can only use an ATM with a personalized card.[10]

Sign up for balance alerts through your account. Log in to your Green Dot online account through the website or app. Click "Account alerts" on your account details screen and sign up for alerts through text or your email.[11]
