   Register your Green Dot card online. The easiest way to check your balance is to text Green Dot, however, the card needs to be registered. Go to Green Dot's activation page and enter your name, address, date of birth, social security number, 16-digit card number, expiration date, 3 digit security code, and mobile phone number.^[1]

   • You can also register through the Green Dot app by logging in and pressing Register / Activate Now.

   Text Green Dot at 42586. Text Green Dot (42586) the letters BAL followed by the last four digits of your card. Your text should look like “BAL 0000.” Green Dot will respond with your current balance.^[2]

   • If you’re having trouble, log into the Green Dot website, click on the link for “Mobile,” and manually register your cell phone number.
   • To get transaction history, type the letters HIST followed by a space and the last 4 digits of your Green Dot Card number.
   • Green Dot doesn’t charge for balance inquiries, but standard text messaging rates still apply.
